Mrs. María Poppinita Kirby

I had every intention of writing a final María Poppinita post on the year anniversary of beginning my adventure as an au pair, but time got away from me. I visited Japan and got engaged, finished school, planned a wedding, graduated, married a very handsome naval officer and then moved to a little home on a hill in southern Japan. I am now writing my final post as "Mrs. María Poppinita Kirby" from my little red couch in Sasebo, Japan.

I am so glad I wrote a blog during my time in Spain. It allowed me to find the world around me more interesting and gave me a reason to take pictures of everyday items and places and find simple things unbearably hilarious. It was also a chance to reflect on experiences and growth without using a diary, which is far too private. Diaries are almost always forgotten and lost and then burned or shredded without delay upon their rediscovery. At least in my experience. The other positive aspect of blogging is being able to share your life with others. Sometime in the fall of 2011 María Poppinita reached 1000 views, so thank you for reading, and for the invaluable self esteem boost that comes with seeing that somebody in the world is actually looking at a page you made. Special thanks to Mom and Dad, who collectively I know must have generated at least 20% of the views.

My one piece of advice to anyone beginning a blog is to pick an end point. I was so much more motivated to finish the blog strong when I knew the period of my life around which the blog was centered would eventually come to an end. With this said I am starting another blog about my life in Japan,  "The Sun Rises Tomorrow" and I would love to share with you!

With love and thanks,
Kate
